In this world premiere, Ayodele Casel creates a virtuosic piece exploring language, communication, identity, and legacy. Casel is a native New Yorker who turned to tap as part of her training to be an actor; two years after her introduction to the art form, she landed the only female role in Savion Glover’s Not Your Ordinary Tappers. Her training and talents make her a performer of great versatility; “she floats over the floor delivering taps so clean, light, and quick they’re like a hummingbird’s thrumming” (Chicago Dance). Hailed by legendary tapper Gregory Hines as “one of the top young tap dancers in the world,” Casel has been creating and presenting her own work since 1999, and adds Spoleto Festival USA to her list of eager recipients this season.
